Accessorizing Your Home

Accessorizing your home can be a finishing step that adds character to any room. Choosing the right accessories can be difficult but if you follow these tips they are sure to help you!

1. Go With What You Love:
Start with an object that you're naturally drawn to then incorporate other accessories that compliment that piece.

2. Choose Your Colours:
Before selecting accessories decide on the colour scheme of your room. If you would like more information on paint colours visit my previous blog post. Choose one or two colours and incorporate accessories that will add interest and compliment your scheme.

Writer's Tip: Contrasting colours add vibrancy to a room. If your furniture and walls are neutral you can opt for bold accessories.

3. Use A Theme:
Accessories are a great way to incorporate a theme into a room. If you like nautical themes accessories such as shells, anchors and stripes are a great way to create a specific vibe.

4. Symmetry:
If you like a modern or more formal look consider a sense of balance. By placing matching items on the ends of your mantle or using the same scale of art on opposite walls of a room your accessories will create a sense of importance.

5. Grouping Objects:
When placing items together, such as candles, vary their size and height. Mixing size and height adds visual interest to the design.

Writer's Tip:
Try grouping items such as frames, jars, candle sticks and artwork to create various looks throughout your home.

6. Lighting:
Lighting is an easy way to create a visual impact in your home. Using a variety of lighting can illuminate a room and create a unique feel. From chandeliers to stainless steel floor lights, light fixtures can add character to any room.

7. Floors:
Floors are an overlooked blank canvas to accessorize. Area rugs are a great way to add colour to a room.
